Introduction to 50 years later
On June 24, 2016, exactly the same date as 50 years ago, we met on our former school in Elsinore to celebrate our 50th anniversary of receiving our A-levels diplomas. We were four classes, and we all met to join the speech day of the new students.
At the end of the ceremony, we went to a reception, held by the school. Afterwards, we split up and each class had their arrangement. In the evening, we met again at the Konventum conference center, where we had a very nice dinner.
Our planning group in 3mx had arranged a tour around Elsinore in a horse-drawn carriage just like the day, when we had our speech day back in 1966. It was quite an experience and people along the route, and the passer-byes were cheering and waving. Some might have been thinking what those old guys were doing. Asian tourist found the incident interesting and were quick with their cameras. The tour finished in front of “Borgerkroen” our favourite pub in our grammar school days. When we arrived at the pub, Henrik, our class mate was waiting for us. Our school mates from 3sa were also there. We entered the pub and had a small lunch there. We stayed a long time at the pub, and we had no time left for anything else but the dinner. So, off we went to Konventum.
At Konventum, we started with a drink for welcome. Then we enjoyed a very nice buffet, and coffee served with cakes. During the meal, one of our school mates entertained playing and singing the old tunes from our youth. Later a co entertainer joined him, and we all took a trip down memory lane. After the meal and coffee, we had a choice of drinks.
Through-out the day the weather was fine and in the evening, it was beautifully warm and calm, allowing us to sit outside enjoying our drinks and talks. Konventum locates with a lovely view to Oeresund and Sweden, which we fully enjoyed.
It is amazing how all the years we have not seen each other, make no difference. Our school and class mates are still the same persons, and we talk and behave as if the years were not gone. Concerning our appearance, it is a bit different. Not much, but still you can see that a few years have passed. By comparing the class photos from 1966 with the class photos from 2016, you can assure yourself that it is the plain truth.
