Golden wedding on December 8, 2018
On December 8, 2018 we celebrated our golden wedding; “a long expected party” to use the words in Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring. We already booked the premises in March 2017 and subsequently started to ask our family and friends to book the day; an unofficial invitation to everybody we wished to join us on that special day. It did cause some confusion as to the year, and some of our friends could not understand that they did not receive an official invitation for 2017.
We had chosen Elsinore’s Royally Privileged Shooting Society’s Assembly Rooms, where we also celebrated our wedding on the same date 50 years ago. As many of us are elderly people, we planned the event from 16 o’clock to about 23 o’clock, so everybody could be in bed in appropriate time. We had arranged with the restaurant a welcome drink, dinner with three courses, coffee with avec, beverages and a light meal at the end. We had hired a pianist playing throughout the evening on the grand piano of the restaurant.
How did the party come off then? The unique atmosphere of the premises, the whole arrangement with choice food and very good and agreeable service and the pianist who played subdued music during the dinner and later played popular music for dancing, set the frame for a perfect evening. It was then up to our guests and us to complement the frame. All our guests arrived in a cheerful mood, prepared to enjoy the evening. Baring in mind that many of our guests were not acquainted, they communicated very well and created a very lively atmosphere. All guests told us later, that it had been such a successful party, and we had a celebration of our golden wedding that we shall always remember.
